Dear Friends and Family,
In the month of April, the Epsilon Psi Chapter of Kappa Alpha Theta and I will be raising money through Cards for CASA, a letter writing campaign, to support the Henrico, VA chapter of our national philanthropy, CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates)!
Henrico CASA and its dedicated volunteers speak for abused and neglected children growing up amid the destructive forces that plague our community: addiction, mental illness, domestic violence, poverty, and homelessness. Our volunteers continue to fight for children caught up in a complicated judicial system, to ensure they have the chance to thrive in a safe and loving home.
Now, with the illness, isolation, and unemployment caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, more children face those destructive forces, likely without schoolteachers and daycare providers who normally are on the front lines in detecting abuse and neglect. In this time of need, more children will need the support of CASA’s volunteers.
Our letter writing initiative, Cards for CASA, will raise money to provide…
$1,000 = An advocate to speak up for a child over the course of a year
$500 = Pre-service training materials for 25 new volunteer advocates
$250 = 10 hours of courtroom advocacy for an abused child
$100 = A complete case file for a family
$50 = Cost of verifying qualifications of a volunteer
$25 = Parenting workbooks and brochures for caregivers
Last spring, our sorority raised $16,780. We are extremely proud of the money we raised, and this year we are hoping to raise even more to achieve our goal of $20,000! The members of Kappa Alpha Theta truly care about this cause and believe that every child deserves to grow up in a safe and caring environment, while having the equal opportunity to thrive.
