We never imagined that we would design a grocery store. This urban store, for a new independent grocer, is at the corner of Monroe Street and Summit Parkway, literally the gateway to Kendall Yards within Spokane’s Central Business District. This urban store’s design vocabulary references that of the former rail yard, with a hip gathering zone at the entry for barbecue and outdoor merchandising, a mezzanine-level cafe and a demonstration kitchen / cooking school. Collaboration with store planners Food Market Designs was a delight — those guys really know grocery stores….
