Friends of Aphasia’s focus is on re-engagement in life and places the life concerns of those affected by aphasia at the center of all decision-making. It addresses one of the most profound challenges faced by people with language disorders: isolation.
“When I’m out in the world, I feel disabled. At Friends of Aphasia, I do not.” – Amy, participant and Board member.
Participants form friendships and experience a sense of belonging with others who understand their challenges. These social connections are not incidental—they are central to Friends of Aphasia is commitment to practical, forward-thinking solutions that help members navigate real-world interactions with greater confidence.
For individuals living with aphasia recovery does not end when formal speech therapy sessions stop. Yet for many, insurance coverage does. This gap leaves people without the long-term support they need to communicate, connect, and fully participate in their communities. Friends of Aphasia, co-founded by former Congresswoman Gabby Giffords, exists to bridge that gap by providing sustained, meaningful support to people too often left behind.
Let's get people talking!
