Since 1982, when both Connecticut Food Bank and Foodshare were incorporated, nearly 600 million meals and nearly 720 million pounds of food have been distributed. Connecticut Food Bank/Foodshare has distributed food for the benefit of an estimated 545,000 people, including 164,000 children who face hunger today. More than 8,000 volunteers and 118 employees have been working tirelessly to feed those in need in across Connecticut.
2020 Year in Review
54 million pounds, enough to make 45 million meals, were distributed in 2020, through a network of 700 food pantries, soup kitchens, and mile distribution sites. Together, 21,000 households every month.
The Emergency Drive Through Food Distribution site at Rentschler Field in East Hartford helped to distribute 6.7 million meals and served 250,000 households/cars. In the new year, three more drive through sites have been introduced including sites in Bridgeport, New London, Norwalk, and Norwich. A fleet of 21 trucks (all refrigerated) transports food across the state, including four customized mobile pantry vehicles.
