Each summer, law enforcement officials carry the Flame of Hope across the state in the Torch Run Final Leg, culminating in the lighting of the cauldron to officially open the Special Olympics North Carolina Summer Games in Raleigh. The 2,000-mile, month-long Torch Run Relay involves more than 2,500 law enforcement officers and personnel representing more than 200 law enforcement agencies across North Carolina. This year due to the Pandemic we were not able to do our annual run Carrying the Torch, but we can still keep the flame of hope burning strong by going that extra mile.
The miles you record can be from walking, running, riding bikes, training on stationary home fitness equipment anything that gets you up and moving. Track your weekly miles on a fitness app or a calendar if you like. Each week we ask that you log and post your miles on an on-your-honor system and donate .25 cents per mile. You are more than welcome to donate as much as you wish per mile. Or if you would just like to make a donation that is fine as well. I also have shirts to sale so you can wear them, take a picture, and share to your social media and on the Special Olympics Facebook as well.
