Girl Strong Community Strong Fundraising Walk

Ever since the death of George Floyd and the nationwide protests broke out I have had a tremendous urge to help fight injustice in our society. That first night, when I heard police helicopters flying over my house and saw news of riots in Tampa on TV, I became overwhelmed with emotion. I said to myself, this isn't ok.  I need to do something.  What on earth can I do? 

Sharing something on social media from and organization I knew nothing about didn't seem to be enough.  Donating to some national organization seemed to "help" in some capacity, but how much impact does that have?  I grew up in and live in a community where I've had the luxury to never think about my safety or the safety or my family while I was in my house.  Not everyone has that privilege.  

I thought of a non-profit organization that I was vaguely familiar with in my town and looked them up to see if they were in Tampa Bay.  I found the Pace Center of Hillsborough and emailed the Executive Director Davia right away to ask about volunteer opportunities.  Due to COVID restrictions, it wasn't until about 6 weeks later that I was able to tour the Center.  Even during a COVID closure with no girls at the Center, I saw the value that it adds to the community and the passion that Davia and the team have. 

I instantly said THIS is somewhere where I can make a direct impact.

I joined the Board of Directors, and am making the commitment to our community, the future of these girls, and the future world that we all live in.

Every bit of awareness helps a local facility like this.  Monetary donations are most important (even a $5 donation matters), awareness and spreading the word around town helps tremendously, too.  

Please join me in our "Girl Strong Community Strong" walk to help me raise money and awareness for Pace Center for Girls in Hillsborough County.  Our team is "Pure Barre Strong + Girl Strong" please join us in walking at the event or virtually (non-locals invited too)!  Can't make it to the walk?  You can donate!  These funds are used to fund the Centers school supplies and pay their bills directly!  

Walk ticket (virtual or in-person) $30.  Please strive for your individual fundraising goal to be a minimum of $100 (Tampa locals... this means you!)  We all know times are tough right now, but they are tougher for these girls families.
