Alex had his first seizure when he was 1 years old. For almost an entire year, he would have seizures every time he got sick but it was always diagnosed as "febrile seizures" In February of 2020, he finally had his first EEG which led to his diagnosis of generalized epilepsy. His seizures range from tonic- clonic seizures, grand mal, and sometimes even absent seizures. Epilepsy has been challenging because the medications he has to be on come with so many side effects that effect his behavior, sleep patterns, and appetite. He also has faced other challenges such as speech delays and ADHD which are common in children with Epilepsy. I believe that he has one of THE BEST Neurologists at Driscoll Children's Hospital. She has helped him in so many ways by being vigilant with his treatment plan and always listening to my concerns. I believe he has been receiving the best help and support to help him be successful. Although this journey so far has been difficult, it has also brought so much prospective to our lives. He doesn't understand things the way we do but we always take the extra time to help him understand in a way that he can. We love you!!!!!!
