Description
Due to the uncertainty of the spread of COVID-19, we are not able to host the 12th Annual Baby Steps Memorial Run in person.  This event means so much to all of us!  And like you, we are disappointed.  The Baby Steps Committee is working hard to make sure we make the best of it and still recognize your loss while we practice proper social distancing and we raise funds for The Amelia Center!  We want to encourage everyone to keep moving.  So, this year we will host a VIRTUAL Challenge for the entire month of September.  Get out (or in) with your family and walk, run, jog, bike ride! 
If you are registering after 8/24 please note you will not receive a race shirt.  All memorial names submitted on or before 8/27 will be included on the race shirts.  We still want to recognize all names submitted so please keep including them with registration!  We had to cut off the memorial names 8/27 so we could finalize the shirt design and begin printing. We will still include all names throughout the challenge as we create a memorial piece this year.

 

How does this Virtual Challenge work? 
  • Register for the challenge through RunSignup  and make sure you do so by AUGUST 15th to have a memorial name included on the race shirt.  No names will be taken after August 15th and we cannot guarantee you will receive a race shirt if you register after that date.  We will email all participants once shirts are available for pick-up at Trak Shak in Homewood.  Please remember if you did not make the cut-off date you will not receive a race shirt.  We did not order extra shirts due to costs.  We will not be mailing any race shirts.
  • Set-Up a Fundraiser page to help raise funds for The Amelia Center.  We will have a prize for the top fundraiser (team or individual) and we will also have some incentives to reach fundraising goals so be sure to join our Facebook Page to see what those goals are and what you can get for supporting this cause!
  • Each participant will get out and walk/run or bike ride. 
  • Track your distance on your favorite tracking app (Strava, Runkeeper, Nike Run Club, Map My Run, Walk, Ride just to name a few) every time you are out!
  • Log your distance for each activity type (choices are walking/running or biking) into your RunSignup account under our challenge.  We recommend that you log your distance daily but you are welcome to do whatever works best for your schedule! Your time is tracked from September 1st to October 1st.  But don't let that stop you from getting out there before or after the Baby Steps Challenge is over! If you need instructions on how to log your distance, please go to our Facebook page for a "How to" video.
  • Make post to our Facebook Page showing your distance, fun selfies while you walk/run/bike, let us know who you are running for, and encouraging others to get out and walk! Include notes to your loved one or friends! Always use #babystepsal so anyone can find the posts!
  • Have fun while practice proper social distancing!
RunSignup will tally everyone's distance after October 1st.  We will have 1st, 2nd and 3rd place medals for the participants who logged the most miles for running/walking and also have medals for 1st, 2nd and 3rd most miles logged for biking. 
Each paid participant will receive a confirmation email after registering.  Please read that email - it contains specific information to remember your loved ones! through the challenge! This email contains a link to upload a short video of you honoring your loved one in any way you choose (holding a photo, saying their name, holding a sign with their name, releasing a balloon.)  Please do not share this link.  Each paying participant will be sent a link. After the Challenge is over we will create a video including all of these submitted videos as our memorial piece to the run.  We will post the video to Facebook and out website. 
Again, shirt pick-up will only be at Trak Shak in Homewood:  *PLEASE NOTE WE WILL COMMUNICATE SHIRT PICK-UP DETAILS LATER THROUGH EMAIL.  WE WILL ENCOURAGE TEAM PICK-UP! WE WILL NOT BE MAILING ANY RACE PACKETS. This is for anyone who registered by the shirt deadline.
