Description

The Goose Pond Island Half Iron & Frantic Frog Sprint Triathlons return to the Goose Pond Colony Resort, located in Scottsboro, Alabama on Sunday, May 26, 2024. We invite all to come enjoy the beauty and challenge awaiting in our host Northern Alabama venue!

Packet Pickup Sat 5 PM - 7:30 PM & Sun 5:30 - 6:30 AM at the swimming pool pavilion. Please park on the north side of the pool and not by the transition area. Please note that if you are picking up your packet on race day morning, you will need to arrive early so that you can get checked in and won’t delay the start of the race. Both distances need to be checked in by 6:30am and transition closes at 6:45AM.

The 1.2 mile swim will be in the pristine waters of Lake Guntersville. The half iron distance triathlon will begin at 7:00 AM Central. Course will follow the buoys in a loop course. The protected waters of Lake Guntersville will have little or no current and should offer a great opportunity for a personal record swim time. Swim Map Link

The 56 mile bike makes use of the natural terrain of the area. Scottsboro is located in the Sequatchie Valley in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains. Course will exit Goosepond Colony and bike towards the historic Jackson County Courthouse. Once past the courthouse square, cyclists will head out to the surrounding countryside for a fast ride along rural roads. The bike route will be fairly flat and fast. Map Link  We have updated the Bike course through downtown to help with traffic.  The main difference is going down Scott Street downtown rather than Broad Street.  We are still trying to find an alternate route before the RR at Fackler but may not be for this year.

The 13.1 mile run will leave transition and run along the golf course before turning into the campground beginning two 5.3 mile loops. Runners return down Ed Hembree Drive to finish by transition. The run provides views of Lake Guntersville as well as plentiful wildlife. Aid stations will be passed 16 times. Map Link

Note: we are instituting "cut off times" for the safety of participants, volunteers and support staff - limits noted are from the start of final starter: swim 1:15, bike 5:15 hours, run 1/2 way point 7:15 - finish line, music, etc. will be in place for all finishers - venue tear-down may begin depending on severe weather forecast, as in past years. Safety is our first priority.

Frantic Frog Sprint race includes a 500 meter Swim, 14 mile Bike & 5K run beginning at 8 AM Central. Swim will start at end of pier with a rectangular course & beach exit. Swim: Map Link -  Bike will be an out & back course. Bike : Map Link - Run will also be an out and back route into campground & return to finish by transition. Run: Map Link.

Athlete Amenities - race packets will include: race t-shirt, water bottle, socks, swim cap (must be worn). FINISHER MEDALS for all finishers.
