Description

The Jingle Trail races continue the healthy holiday themed legacy of running in Tucson and Vail. Mica Mountain High School and the Mica Mountain Cross Country Program aim to engage the community in promoting healthy lifestyles and community engagement. We are proud to help partner with the local community, Vail School District Transportation Department and collect toys for Toys for Tots. This year we'll attempt to pack up a Vail School District bus with over 500 new toys for our local community. Every registered runner/walker is requested to bring a new & unwrapped toy for donation. Our Cross Country team and school would like to thank you for considering coming to this event, being a part of the Mica Mountain collaborative culture, and helping to brighten the holidays for those around us.

The Mica Mountain Cross Country team will be out on course throughout your Jingle Trail experience to help direct you, cheer you on from the start to the finish line, and help you enjoy your morning. The course will primarily be on the Mica Mountain Cross Country course with a few potential modifications. The race will be chalked/coned, have railroad ties denoting borders of pathways as well as having Mica Cross Country athletes pointing you in the right direction. The race will start and finish on the school track (which is new and awesome!) and include "Thunder Hill"  to the southwest and the "Rolling Thunder" hills behind the visitor bleachers. A link on this website will take you to a MapMyRun simulation of the race.

A 2021 "Day of Service" with many stakeholders helped improve the terrain including 10 truck-beds filled with pecan shells from the Green Valley Pecan Company. This natural material is a challenge to run on but will naturally become a part of our course over time. During May 5th, 2023 over 50 students helped weed, level, widen, and lay over 30 tons of decomposed granite on sections of the course to make it even better than before. On May 12th, 2023 Cross Country athletes and district employees traveled to Bisbee to collect 100 railroad ties to help better section off the path in hopes of making things ever clearer and faster for all. Course terrain varies from the fast start and finish on the school track, asphalt sections, dirt, grass, and hills with something to challenge even the most seasoned of runners! This fun event is a great sampler of high school Cross Country! We hope you decide to come spend the morning with us and encourage you to spread the word to family and friends...and don't forget the toy donation for Toys for Tots!

The Jingle Trail Courses! We have our traditional 5k course and a 1k course for kids.

We hope you will enjoy our home Cross Country course with holiday themed decorations throughout!

Enjoy running up Thunder Hill like our athletes are with their Jingle Trail themed props! Holiday themed outfits are encouraged!

Mica Mountain Cross Country

Welcome to Mica Mountain Cross Country! Founded in 2020, we are now in our 4th year as a program. We train from June to late November and compete in local and out of state Cross Country races (typically 5k distance). Our team is over 50 athletes of all grade levels (9-12). In our first year, we sent one athlete to State. In 2021 we sent a boys team and one girl to State. In 2022 we sent the boys team and 2 girls to State. This year, we qualified BOTH teams and the girls team WON Sectionals. Last year we traveled to the Mt. Sac Invitational in California and athletes ran on the famous course and this year, we raced at the Woodbridge Invitational and set numerous PRs. We aim to build healthy lifestyles and help mentally balance the challenge of school and academics with running and team building. Check out our new team website to learn more about who we are www.runwithmica.org
