BADWATER: It’s a frame of mind, a global family of horizon-chasers, and a statement to the world about priorities and preconceived notions of what is possible. Badwater is a way of life! Are you ready to kick off 2023 with an authentic, original Badwater experience?
AdventureCORPS® – the organizers of the iconic worldwide series of Badwater® races – are pleased to offer the BADWATER 267 VR in which competitors will virtually and sequentially traverse the routes of all three Badwater® races – the 51-mile Badwater Cape Fear, the 81-mile Badwater Salton Sea, and the 135-mile Badwater 135 – for a total of 267 miles, or 430km. These three events comprise the legendary Badwater Ultra Cup - and Badwater 267 VR! Start off 2023 with this new challenge and immerse yourself in the world of Badwater!
If you are up to the challenge, you will complete 267 miles (430km) during the month of January. You have 31 days to complete 267 miles on foot - or 133.5 miles swimming, 1068 miles cycling, 1335 miles indoor cycling, or 534 miles hand-cycling - and you can do them anywhere you want, including indoors. There is also a multi-sport division for those who want to combine different sports (including paddling and cross-country skiing.) Participation is based on the “honor system,” but there is a highly recommended Private Strava Club and Facebook Event page to bring everyone together.
Go at your own pace, as often or as long as you want, wherever you live, anywhere on the planet!
• Running division: You must complete all 267 miles on foot: only running, walking, hiking, and snowshoeing are allowed and you may accomplish your miles anywhere, including on a treadmill, elliptical, or stair-stepper, or on an indoor track, alone or with others, or even during a "real world" running event.
• Multi-Sport division: You may swim, bike, run, XC ski, or paddle, logging your miles according to the formulas for each sport. (Cross-country skiing and paddling sports are logged one-for-one.) Activities may be done indoors and/or outdoors. For prone paddling - i.e. no paddle - this is considered equivalent to swimming and counts 2 miles for each 1 mile paddled.
• Cycling division (which now includes indoor and outdoor cycling, with different requirements): You must bike all the miles, whether outdoors, indoors, or both. (For logging and covering the 267-mile course, 4 miles outdoor cycling = 1 mile running., while 5 miles indoor cycling = 1 mile running.)
• Swimming division: you must swim all the miles, either in open water or a pool. (For logging and covering the 267-mile course, 1 mile swimming = 2 miles running.)
SWAG & AWARDS:
Participants will receive a BADWATER 267 VR tech shirt, BADWATER buff, and BADWATER sunglasses in a custom Badwater box. For those who log the necessary miles within the RunSignUp system, a BADWATER 267 VR Medal will also be awarded. (Medals are not sent just for participating; they are sent to those who cover the distance AND log all the necessary miles with the RunSignUp system.) These items will be shipped approximately 45 days after BADWATER 267 VR concludes. See the event webpage for all the info.
This is not a traditional ultra, nor a run-of-the-mill virtual – Badwater events are NEVER traditional – it’s the BADWATER 267 VR – an authentic and original BADWATER event – and we hope you will join us!
