Description

Start the New Year running as far as you can or as little as you want. Sign up individually or as a team! The course is a 1.0 mile loop around Cottonwood Lake in popular Hellyer Park. USATF course certification (CA23033TEB).

 

Bib Number & Shirt Pick-up

Race Day: Check-in beginning at 8:00 a.m. at Hellyer County Park (Buena Vista Pavilion). Please arrive 30min before your event to receive your bib and shirt. Event start times are listed here.
Parking is $6 per vehicle. Please bring exact change to expedite entry.

Shirts

To guarantee a shirt, please register 10 business days prior to the event.  And please register one month before to guarantee a mid-layer embroidered fleece.

Course

Each lap is 1.03 miles around Cottonwood Lake in Hellyer Park along the asphalt path. The course is relatively flat.
The course isn't lighted and we recommend having a flashlight available at night. 
Pacing is not allowed.

Chip Timing

Each lap will be recorded using a bibtag timing chip. Real-time lap splits will displayed on a TV screen at the S/F.
 
Runners need to complete the full lap within the event time limit to receive credit for the distance.
 

Aid Stations

Fully-stocked aid station every mile. You can expect fresh fruit, salty snacks, assorted candy, water, and Skratch electrolyte sports drink. There will be hot soup and pizza in the evening.
Runners can set up tents, tables, chairs and coolers along the course.
Portable toilets are located adjacent to the course near the start/finish area.

Cupless

In an effort to reduce waste and litter, Coastal events are cupless. We request that you bring your preferred means of containing fluids, including hot drinks, for during your run and at the aid station. Please make sure that it is not breakable and labeled. There will be a table to leave them. We will have some Hydrapak SpeedCup ($5) for sale at check-in.
Please note that there are no pre-filled cups of hydration at the aid stations.

Team Competition

Teams of 2-4 members will be issued a Race Belt to attach their team bib.. Each team member is required to complete at least one lap but they can complete as many, or as little, laps as they'd like. The team bib can only be transferred to another team member at the timing mat (S/F). 
Award medals are given to the top three teams. All teams will receive a custom coaster with their team name and distance completed.

Awards

Awards Ceremonies at Hellyer Park:

24 hour – 9:15 a.m. (Jan 1st)
100 Mile – 1:15 p.m. (Jan 1st)
12 hour – 9:15 p.m. (Dec 31st)
6 hour – 3:15 p.m. (Dec 31st)

Midlayer fleece, or equivalent, will be given to all 24hr and 12hr individual runners (at check-in). Hi-tech tee for the other categories. Award medals are given to the 1st female and male finishers overall and top three finishers in each age group. All participants (except 100-mile runners) will receive a finisher's medal and a custom coaster with their name and distance completed. 24hr runners who complete 60 laps and 97 laps will receive the "100K" and "100+ Miles" belt buckle, respectively. 100-mile runners who complete 100 miles will receive a finisher's medal and a belt buckle. Note: After the start, runners do not have the option to change to another event (i.e., 24 hr, 12 hr, 6 hr, or 100 mi.)  100-mile runners do not qualify for the 100K buckle or custom coaster.

Overall Winners:  The top 3 male and female overall winners of every individual category will win an award and race credits to future Coastal races:

1st Place - $50
2nd Place - $35
3rd Place - $20

Runners who choose to start at the optional times (12noon, 6pm, 9pm), are not eligible for overall awards.

Top three finishers in each age group and gender will receive award medals.

Note: Overall and age group placing are based on Clock Time rather than Chip Time.  As a bona fide competition, runners should start at the same time and compete against each other on the course.  Chip Time is used so runners can see their actual elapsed time.
