We're taking a different direction with the Dip & Dash races this year - only one standalone swim-run event with individual and team challenge components.
There are three individual distances for the event and a team challenge category for teams of 3. The three individual distances are: 350m swim and 2k run (1.25 miles), 750m swim and 4 mile run, or 1500m swim and 4 mile run.
The team challenge will be structured similar to a triathlon mixed team relay: teams of three where each member will complete a swim and run before tagging off to the next team member. Its a very fast paced and fun event to do and to watch. There will be two categories of the team relay - mixed gender (Male-Female-Male or Female-Male-Female) and a single gender category (all male or all female). The team with the lowest overall time is the winner. You can capture the same feeling Team USA had when it won the mixed team relay at ITU Worlds! The distance for the team challenge is the shortest distance 400 yd swim and 1.25 miles (2K) run. Each team member will complete that course and come back through the finish line and tag off the next team member who will then complete the entire swim/run before tagging off the last team member. Each person will get an individual time for ranking and the lowest time in each team will win that category.
There are three distances of swim-run events for this race.
We're taking a page from the triathlon super-sprint mixed team relay format.
Teams of three participants can compete in the Team Challenge Relay races - on the shortest distance event (350m swim and 2 k run). Unlike traditional triathlon relays, each member of these teams will complete both the swim and run segments before tagging off to the next team member.
Teams will be structured as follows:
The team with the lowest overall time in each category will win. This is a great opportunity for clubs and or family/friends groups to compete together in a fast paced and spectator friendly team event.
All packet pickup and on-site registration will take place at the Cowell Beach parking lot adjacent to the Santa Cruz Municipal Wharf starting at 7:00 am. This is also transition for the event so the lot will be totally closed to parking or drive through. The best place to park is in Depot Park at 119 Center Street - about a block up from the beach behind the National Marine Sanctuary Center.
Remember to bring a photo ID to packet pickup to get your bib and timing chip. You must be present to pick up your own race materials.
