About the Heather Janikowski Foundation

Heather Janikowski defeated all odds over 9 years ago when she was diagnosed with breast cancer and went into remission. In 2018 she was diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic breast cancer to her brain. With prayer and faith, she was the first known person to go into remission overcoming the doctors prognosis that she would have 2 months to live. Heather continued her life cured and as a living miracle, she continued giving back to all those in need. She took care of many other cancer patients and held their hand when they lost their battle. Heather loved children of all ages and she mentored them through their challenges and gave them confidence to persevere. Not only was Heather active as a caregiver but she excelled in physical activity. As a kinesiology major, physical therapy assistant and physical education teacher she worked hard to take care of herself and be a good example to those around her. She woke every morning at 3am to get in her morning run. She regularly took yoga classes hiked and rode her horses daily. Last February, the cancer returned. Heather never lost faith and although she never stopped fighting to continue to physically be present with her husband and 3 children, she gave her future to God. "I know the plans I have for you" declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call upon Me and come and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. You will seek Me and find Me when you seek me with all your heart." Jeremiah 29:11-13

Heather, a beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend lost her battle with breast cancer on January 19th, 2022. Heather passed away peacefully at her home in Fallbrook, California with her husband Dan, children Dean, Megan, Jack and sweet chocolate lab, Chip by her side.

In memory of Heather, the Janikowski family has founded the Heather Janikowski Foundation.

“Heather Janikowski Foundation is committed to programs related to a healthy lifestyle for children, their families, and educators that embody and promote collaborations that help all children realize their full potential.”

Heather loved to support the local farmers markets and small shops as well as advocating for children and animals through a variety of non profit organizations and events. She was a natural born leader and with her participation and ability to rally, goals always superseded expectations. As a teacher, she believed in the importance of education and loving the whole child. “Every child deserves a chance, we just need to love them and accept them for who they are.”
