Who Was Ryan?
Ryan Vomacka was the kind of person who made everyone around him better.
A Mountain View High School graduate, Ryan was a standout athlete, student, entrepreneur, teammate, and friend. Sports were woven into his DNA, but track and field became his true passion. He helped lead the Mountain View boys track team to the 2016 Colorado State Championship and left his name in the record books. More importantly, he left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him through his work ethic, humility, humor, and ability to lift others up.
Ryan graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Colorado Colorado Springs in just three years while competing as a collegiate athlete, interning with the Olympics, and running his own landscaping business. Whether on the track, in the classroom, or at work, he approached life with relentless determination and a contagious enthusiasm.
Ryan was diagnosed with Stage 4 Glioblastoma, an aggressive and incurable brain cancer. Given only weeks to live, Ryan fought courageously for 15 extraordinary months. During that time, he returned to Mountain View High School to help coach track and field, investing his energy into the next generation of athletes.
Ryan's legacy is one of courage, kindness, perseverance, and joy. He showed us how to live fully, love deeply, and never stop fighting. He is forever loved, forever missed, and never forgotten.
Race Description
The Flyin' Ryan Memorial 5K is more than a race, it's a celebration of a remarkable life and a way to continue the impact Ryan made on our community.
Held annually and this year is has moved to Fairgrounds Park in Loveland. The event brings together runners, walkers, families, friends, teammates, and supporters to honor Ryan's legacy while supporting the future of local athletics. Proceeds benefit the Mountain View High School Track & Cross Country programs and the Flyin' Ryan Scholarship Fund, which is awarded each year to a deserving athlete who demonstrates the same perseverance, leadership, and character Ryan embodied.
Whether you're chasing a personal record on our new flat and fast course, walking with friends, volunteering, or cheering from the sidelines, you're helping keep Ryan's spirit alive and supporting young athletes as they pursue their dreams.
Our goal is to make this event a lasting tradition that inspires others to live with the same passion, grit, and generosity Ryan showed every day.
