SEASHORE STRIDER CHALLENGE OF 2024

JANUARY 1, 2024 – DECEMBER 31, 2024

JOIN THE STRIDERS ON A FITNESS JOURNEY FOR A CAUSE

HERE IS HOW IT WORKS…

100 miles per month for 12 months…1,200 miles and NEW THIS YEAR..."The Strider Good Deed" once a month.

A $5.00 entry fee to join or register.

I am going to put this event on runsignup to track you, have an email list & have a waiver signed.

The goal is 100 miles each month of the year by the following:

RUNNING, WALKING, BIKING, SWIMMING & INDOOR ROWING

Add up your miles with a goal of 100 by the last day of each month.

At the end of the month WHEN you reach 100 miles…you go to event site on runsignup and make your $10 donation and move on to the next month…if you do not reach 100 miles- you still donate $10 but your penalty is you have to make an additional donation to our cause…we deposit it in the non-profit and at the end of the year we make a donation to the 4 charities that are named below.   Just think, my goal is 150 participants staying healthy each month which calculates to $18,000!

(IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO PAY THE $120.00 DONATION UP FRONT YOU MAY AND IT IS CHEAPER FINANCIALLY TO USE RUNSIGNUP EITHER UPFRONT ($120.00 FOR THE YEAR OR $10 AT THE END OF EACH MONTH) AND JUST WORRY ABOUT MAKING ADDITIONAL DONATIONS "IF" YOU DO NOT REACH 100 MILES)...I can tell you that most of the folks in 2023 paid the $120 up front and then they only had to log their 100 miles each month.   Remember "IF" you do not reach 100 miles then you have to make an additional donation..."That's Your Motivation".

HERE ARE THIS YEARS CHARITIES THAT WE WILL DONATE TO:

CAPE COMMUNITY FUND - SUSSEX COUNTY LAND TRUST - CAPE HENLOPEN FOOD BASKET - GRASS ROOTS RESCUE

* WHAT IS THE "STRIDER GOOD DEED"?

What does good deed really mean?...These can include acts of kindness, charity, volunteering, or any action that benefits others or contributes to the well-being of society. Good deeds are often seen as a way to make a positive impact and improve the lives of individuals or communities.

Here are some examples:

  • Donate food or clothing
  • Volunteer...food shelter, thrift store, hospital etc...
  • Donate an old cell phone, iPad, electronics etc...
  • Sign up for a CPR/First Aid course
  • Cook for someone
  • Donate blood
  • Help a friend in need
  • Plant a tree
  • Hold the door open for someone
  • Pay for someone's coffee in line at Wawa
  • last but not least, donate your time or even some post-race refreshments at a local race.

Basically it is a Seashore Strider way of just trying to make our world a better place.    Think about it as you have 12 to do for the year ( 1 each month).

I am not going to police this task, however it will be a self monthly requirement by you.   Most of you likely already do a good deed a month- at least I would hope you do.   You do not need to email me or check anything off with me...what I ask is you send a few emails to me throughout the year with a photo and explain your good deed and we can include the photo at our end of the year gathering.

Lastly, I think it is important to celebrate a good deed so we again will take a small portion of the income collected and celebrate our accomplishments with a Holiday Gathering at the end of the year at a location to be determined.

In conclusion…I organized crazy challenges for the local runners during covid that were amazingly successful with hundreds taking part and we donated a lot of money that year.  This challenge will be easy for most runners, but for some like myself with sore knees & a sore back knowing I can’t run 1,200 miles in a year anymore (flashback to college-DSU 1989 my team ran 1,200 miles in 12 weeks, but those days are long gone).  With the addition of walking, biking and swimming- the challenge will be achievable for all ages from our 9 & U kids to our 80+ legends anywhere..  It will again be a challenge for me, but I am going to give it a go, which I figure can not do anything but help me and others stay healthy throughout the year.

Keep these Quote's with you throughout the year to keep you going...
