John M. Scharp was born in Wilmington on January 7, 1974. One of four children, John was a graduate of Concord High School. John went on to earn his Bachelor’s Degree from University of Delaware where he was a member of Sigma Nu. He earned his Master’s Degree from Goldey Beacom College. He was a member of St. John the Beloved Parish. John was an active fisherman and loved to spend time at the beach. John was a proud GEICO insurance agent and operated an independent firm on Kirkwood Highway. Aside from being a husband and father, John’s most passionate role was serving on the Advisory Council of USO Delaware. In July 2013, John was diagnosed with a rare form of sarcoma. He fought the disease courageously trying various treatments and chemotherapies, but one year later, he lost his brave battle. John’s wife, Anne has stepped into the role of GEICO Field Representative. She continues John’s legacy by sitting on the Advisory Council for USO Delaware. Their children Chloe, Noah, Sam and John are active fisherman and crabbers following in their daddy’s footsteps.
