Kilby Laboratory School has served as a cornerstone of innovation and excellence in education for more than 50 years. As Alabama's only laboratory school, established and staffed through the University of North Alabama, Kilby provides a unique environment where learning, creativity, and research come together to benefit students from Pre-K through sixth grade. For the last decade, Kilby has been one of Alabama's Top 25 Schools.
Why is fundraising to important for Kilby?
Kilby is operated differently than traditional public schools, so we do not qualify for many of the typical district or state funding sources that support capital projects or enrichment programs. This means that our PTO plays a critical role in providing the opportunities and experiences that make Kilby exceptional.
Our annual Kilby Cub Dash 5k and Fun Run, scheduled for April 18th, 2026, is our largest fundraiser of the year. This event brings together families, students, alumni, community members, and local businesses to celebrate health, community, and education - all while raising funds that directly benefit Kilby Students.
Our continued efforts are to fund a new playground for our students and supporting our yearly operating costs. Kilby's current playground is over 27 years old and our students are deserving of a new and improved play environment. Over the last two years, the PTO has raised $25,000 for our new playground. We anticipate the playground to exceed $150,000 in costs.
