An independent 501c3 non-profit public charity, the Palmer Foundation champions the legacy of our founders. Through grantmaking and initiatives, we continue Arnold and Winnie’s devotion to youth – encouraging strong character and supporting children facing health challenges – and honor their commitment to nature and its ability to enrich and heal us. ABOUT THE ARNOLD & WINNIE PALMER FOUNDATION.
Arnold and Winnie Palmer's commitment to caring for vulnerable children is perhaps best reflected in the Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children and the Winnie Palmer Hospital for Women & Babies - both now part of Orlando Health. In the mid-1980s, when Arnold and Winnie visited the neonatal intensive care unit and pediatrics wing of Orlando Regional Medical Center, they were impressed by the talent and dedication of the staff, but they were bothered by the modest facilities. At that time, Mr. Palmer commented: OUR CONNECTION TO THE PALMER HOSPITALS, PART OF ORLANDO HEALTH.
“We can do better than this. We should do better than this, for the children of our community.”
For the remainder of his very active life in golf, business, aviation, and philanthropy, Mr. Palmer continued to "do better" for children. The Arnold Palmer Hospital opened on September 10, 1989. On May 30, 2006, Winnie Palmer Hospital for Women & Babies opened, dedicated exclusively to the needs of women and babies. While the Palmer Foundation is separate and independent from the Palmer Hospitals, we champion their continued success.
In 2012, grateful patients and families set out to raise funds for under-funded pediatric cancer research, along with the hospital, they asked for help from Arnold Palmer. For many years, Arnie's Marches were successfully held at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and elsewhere. WHAT ABOUT "ARNIE'S MARCH?"
As COVID threatened these joyful events raising funds and bringing together young cancer fighters, survivors, and those who love them, the Palmer Foundation, rather than halt support for this important cause, recalled Arnold's words -
“We can do better than this."
We hope you will enjoy and support - Arnie's Challenge!
