THE PROGRAM | Pets Healing Vets is a program facilitated and funded by the Humane Society for Hamilton County. Pets Healing Vets is the only program of its kind in the state of Indiana that removes the real barrier to companion pet ownership many veterans find themselves faced with - COST. The goal of Pets Healing Vets is to improve the emotional well-being of Hoosier Veterans suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) or Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) by pairing them with carefully selected shelter dogs or cats in need of homes.
WHAT IT FUNDS | Pets Healing Vets funds all pre and post adoption expenses for the life of the pet as needed.
- Adoption fees and all pre-adoption vetting
- Basic obedience training and continued training/behavior support as needed
- Monthly preventatives and annual exams/procedures
- Food
- Doctor visits, diagnostics, labs, and medications associated with illness or injury
- Extraordinary or emergency medical care for injury or illness
