MI-C.O.P.S. Mission Statement -
Michigan Concerns of Police Survivors (MI-C.O.P.S.) provides resources to assist in rebuilding of the lives of surviving families and co-workers of law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty as determined by federal criteria. Furthermore, MI-C.O.P.S. provides training to the law enforcement agencies on survivor victimization issues and educates the public of the need to support the law enforcement profession and its survivors.
MI-C.O.P.S. is a statewide, non-profit tax exempt organization which depends on donations as its sole source of financial income. If you are interested in making a donation to MI-C.O.P.S. or would like to learn more about our organization, please contact us.
History -
Michigan Concerns of Police Survivors (MI-C.O.P.S.) is a chapter of Concerns of Police Survivors. Our sole purpose is to provide support to surviving law enforcement families and co-workers in rebuilding their lives after the traumatic and life-changing experience of losing an officer in the line of duty. Concerns of Police Survivors (C.O.P.S.) is a national, non-profit organization formed in Washington, D.C. in 1984. C.O.P.S. held its first National Police Survivors seminar the following year with 100 attendees. Now over 10,000 survivor families and co-workers are served by C.O.P.S. nationally. MI-C.O.P.S. was organized in 1988 after 12 line of duty deaths occurred the previous year and the need for a local chapter to offer support was identified as a priority for the families and co-workers. Our chapter is one of over 50 C.O.P.S. chapters throughout the country. We have members throughout the state. It does not matter if your officer was killed in the line of duty in Michigan or elsewhere, MI-C.O.P.S. is here to offer you help.
