The Ironbound Ambulance Squad was formed in 1952 by a group of Ironbound residents who wanted to decrease the response time for ambulances to emergency calls in the tight and narrow streets of the Ironbound Section of Newark. The group formed the squad and purchased the ambulances. Ironbound Ambulances provide emergency medical services to the residents of the East Ward, also known as the Ironbound section, of Newark, NJ (most populous section of Newark).
The squad receives no federal or municipal funding for its operation. Throughout the years, Ironbound Ambulance Squad has been a fully self-sufficient entity and has evolved into a public safety organization. The Squad's operations are supported by generous donations of the local community and businesses
