History:
Dr. John Bender was a true champion to the community of Canal Winchester and its young people, as evidenced by his 17 years on the City Council and 20 years as the coach of the girls track team and boys and girls cross country teams. The teams Dr. Bender coached achieved great success year after year as a result of the values he instilled in his athletes from an early age. Dr. Bender was inducted into the Canal Winchester Schools Athletic Hall of Fame for his dedication as an athlete and coach. His involvement in the community, church, and schools never waned, even as he battled illness. Dr. Bender sadly passed in September 2013. Even though now absent in person, the influence Dr. Bender has had on Canal Winchester and its residents and students will be felt for many years.
The Dr. Bender 5K Classic is the biggest fundraiser of the year for the cross country program at Canal Winchester High and Middle Schools. A contribution by you or your business will help defray the expenses of holding the race as well as help cover travel, entry fees, equipment, camp, and various other team-related expenses.
Sponsorship levels start as low as $10. Donations of $100 or more that are made by June 30 at 11:59 pm are guaranteed to be on the t-shirt for this year's race.

- $500+: Acknowledged on the Dr. Bender Facebook page, Dr. Bender website, and on the back of race t-shirts as a Gold Level Sponsor.
