Finish 2020 Strong Virtual Challenge
Includes the following events: ( WITH Fundraiser Option)The Thomas Scully Foundation was founded in loving memory of Thomas Scully. Thomas passed away, at the age of 12, because of a malignant brain tumor called Anaplastic Ependymoma. Thomas was a kind and loving boy who brought happiness wherever he went. He was a ray of light, our Sunshine! He loved running around bare footed, climbing trees, cooking, music, playing video games and spending time with his family and friends. Thomas' strength, determination, perseverance, and resilience were awe inspiring! Like the words from one of Thomas' favorite songs "You can walk straight thru hell with a Smile!", that is exactly what he did! Thomas enjoyed every second that he was here because only he knew how hard he worked for it! We are devastated by the passing of our sweet boy but helping children who are here now, in his honor, brings us happiness too!
The Thomas Scully Foundation will carry on Thomas' memory by bringing a "Little Bit of Happiness" to children with cancer today, while supporting a cure for tomorrow. We are fulfilling our mission by bringing "A Little Bit of Happiness" care packages to children with cancer stuck in the hospital. We know firsthand what it means to see your child smile while in a hospital setting. It's like everything around you stops. This meant a lot to us as a family as well as to Thomas. It let him know that people were thinking about him and cared. Priceless! We have also been able to do special events at the hospital, such as Thomas' Happy Day celebration. We were able to bring an assortment of hot chaffing dishes of food, dessert, goodie bags and gifts to the children and their families. We received wonderful feedback and a lot of smiles! But none of this would be possible without your support! Please help us to continue bringing happiness to these children with cancer stuck in the hospital. We are able to support a cure for tomorrow by supporting families whose child has run out of curative options. After Thomas' initial brain surgery and radiation, when his cancer came back, there were no other proven curative options. Thomas became a world traveler! We had to travel to different states looking for treatment options, something! Anything! that could save our child's life! We relocated across the country and eventual to another continent. Sometimes we were able to stay together as family and at other times we were separated. We knew, because we lived it, that this was support that was desperately needed! These families have a lot of expenses because of needing to travel to a different hospital that could be 100 miles away, a different state or on the other side of the world. Often the child's health is deteriorated and they require extra services, special food, vitamins exc. that are not covered by insurance. And on top of all that, is the question of time, families will want to make memories and do special things with their child that will put a smile on their face. Although we had to travel for treatment, on the days that Thomas wasn't in the hospital and if he was feeling well, we would plan fun things to do such as zoos, beach trips, airsoft wars, cave walking and as Thomas lost the ability to walk we would go out to eat at his favorite restaurant and take some of his friends with us. These memories are what we have now, they are priceless and push us to continue in Thomas' name to put smiles on kids' faces even if for a moment and help these families and children who are living the unimaginable for most yet keep going, keep pushing, keep trying and keep Hoping! Thomas' Foundation is able to support these families through our "A Little Bit of Hope" Family Grant Program thanks to all of you!
Make a difference in the lives of children with cancer and raise awareness!
We are so thankful for the outpouring of support we have received over the years from friends near and far. We look forward to your continued support representing the kids and making this year's walk our most successful! None of this would be possible without your support!
Remember, "A Little Bit" can do A Lotta Bit when we do it TOGETHER!
