The 2022 Scrub Jay Races will be in-person at Oscar Scherer Park as well as an option to for a Virtual Scrub Jay 5K and 10K. While there are currently still restrictions on organized events in Florida State Parks, race planning will implement precautions in accordance with Florida State Parks restrictions and CDC guidelines and amend the plans as circumstances warrant.
New for 2022 - The 5K and 10K will utilize different starts and courses!
The Scrub Jay 5K will utilize the same course as the 2021 "Virtually There Scrub Jay." A course designed for the road-runners, it begins on and travels the length of the main entrance road then onto mostly on prepared surface park trails including crushed shell and paver paths then onto earthen trails for the last 3/4 mile with only a very small sandy area.
The Scrub Jay Scramble 10K is entirely on the trails, sugar-sand included, with some ups and downs using recently created pedestrian underpasses and overpasses. Designed by trail runners using the parks features to challenge novice and experienced trail runners.
All participants will receive a custom finishers medal, custom race bib and a snazzy tech race shirt.
5K and 10K Awards: Overall, Masters (40+), Grandmasters (50+), Senior Grandmasters (60+), Veteran Grandmasters (70+) and Youth Overall (14 & under)
5K Age Groups: 3-deep in 9 & under, 10-12, 13-14 and 5-year increments 15-19 to 80 & over
10K Age Groups: 3-deep 14 & under and 5-year increments 15-19 to 80 & over.

Registration fees are non-refundable and not transferable. 100% of your entrance fees benefit the Friends of Oscar Scherer Park, Inc. a 501 (c)3 and the threatened Florida scrub-jay. Friends of Oscar Scherer Park supports the park through charitable, scientific, literary and educational functions, and through programs, activities, and fundraising to foster awareness of its importance as an environmental and recreational asset and to assist in conserving its natural and cultural resources.
