Important Announcement Lake Tarpon 5k Postponed

New Date: 10/18/2020

We have some important news to share with you regarding The Rotary Club of Dunedin North’s upcoming fundraiser, The Lake Tarpon 5k. Due to the recent developments in respect to the COVID-19 virus presently impacting daily life in the United States, the decision was made to postpone the race until October 18, 2020. We have received confirmation from the Pinellas County Parks & Recreation Department that we can announce the new date of the event, and John Chesnut Park can accommodate our event on that date. We are excited to be one of the first races to get on the Fall 2020 race calendar. Please know this decision was not taken lightly, after reviewing all the available data regarding our event and the possibility of short-term disruption in large public gatherings, the Rotary Club of Dunedin North decided to postpone until a date we felt that we could promote and deliver a successful event to the public. As Rotarians we seek to build goodwill and better friendships in our community, our hope is that the postponement of our event will be seen as a prudent step toward keeping our families, friends, and the community we care about safe and healthy. Last year 100% of the funds we received were donated to local charities, and we were able to gift over $8,800 to our community from the Lake Tarpon 5k. With the recent developments of the COVID-19 virus it will be even more important for us to be a force for good in the Tampa Bay Area and beyond.

If you are a race participant, sponsor, or volunteer please know your support of our 5k means a lot to us and we deeply appreciate your involvement. If you feel you cannot be a participant on the newly scheduled date of October 18, please let us know, and we will refund your payment through RunSignUp. If you do not wish to receive a refund so those monies can assist in our efforts to help our community, no action is needed on your part (and we thank you for your support). If you are willing and able to participate in the Lake Tarpon 5k on October 18, 2020 there is nothing you need to do, and your registration will be automatic.

From picking up trash on the Pinellas Trail to delivering flowers to those in assisted living, we’re only as strong as our people. We don’t know what the end of this path looks like yet, but we do know that we’re all in it together. As members of this wonderful community, let’s unite to have each other’s backs and navigate the steep climbs ahead.

Yours in service, Mark A. Middleton
