Description

Raptor Run 3K presented by the St. Augustine Alligator Farm

BENEFICIARY- THE AUDUBON CENTER FOR BIRDS OF PREY

The Audubon Center for Birds of Prey is an urban nature center in Maitland, FL that plays a fundamental role in the conservation of Florida’s raptors. The Center creates a more resilient future for hawks, eagles, owls, vultures, kites, and more through conservation education programs, rehabilitation of raptors through a multi-pronged approach that includes: the medical care and rehabilitation of injured and orphaned raptors through the Raptor Trauma Clinic, conservation education programming, and the Audubon EagleWatch Bald Eagle nest monitoring and research through the Audubon EagleWatch Program, and the Conservation Leadership Initiative, which seeks to inspire the next generation of conservation leaders by connecting Florida college students with networking and experiential learning opportunities within the Audubon Florida community.

Since 1979, the Center’s Raptor Trauma Clinic has cared for over 23,000 injured or orphaned birds of prey, including eagles, owls, falcons, hawks, and kites. Our team specializes in treating Bald Eagles, which comprise approximately 12% of the annual patient load, using innovative treatments, state of the art equipment, and technology to give each bird a second chance at life. To date, the Center has released over 700+ Bald Eagles back into the wild. The Center is open to the public and is home to over 50 non-releasable raptor ambassadors, which visitors have the opportunity to view up close that visitors can learn from at close range.  and personally. Visitors may also learn about the unique adaptations of raptors, the challenges they face, and ways to help.

The Center for Birds of Prey relies on community involvement and donations to sustain our important raptor rehabilitation, education, and conservation work. Funds raised through the Raptor 3K will help support bird care (surgeries, food, housing, medicine, equipment), education and outreach, and the monitoring and protection of more than over 1,200 Bald Eagle nests in Florida.

3K USATF Certified Course # FL20012JK

https://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=7425750

The purpose of the USATF course certification program is to produce road race courses of accurately measured distances. For any road running performance to be accepted as a record or be nationally ranked, it must be run on a USATF-certified course. In addition, the certification program is very important to the average road racer, as well as those of exceptional speed. Most runners like to compare performances run on different courses, and such comparisons are difficult if course distances are not reliable. No one can truly establish a personal best if the course distance is not accurate.
