Description

WE MOVED THE STARTING LINE & FINISH LINE THIS YEAR!

THE RACE STARTS AT 7:30 AM!

This is a 5K run through Anastasia State Park and surrounding neighborhood.  The roads are covered in a hammock with lots of shade and through some of St. Johns County's most beautiful terrain. The race begins at Anastasia Church, proceeds with a run through the park with turns and hills, then through one of St. Augustine’s beautiful neighborhoods. The last leg of the run shoots the runners back Old Beach road to the finish line at Anastasia Church.

Anastasia Church is one of our community partners and they have graciously invited us to use their beautiful shaded property in the back lot for our starting and finish line. The doors will be open for participants to use the facilities inside. There is plenty of parking for everyone!

Benefitting Epic-Cure

We are excited to host our 4th annual Shine a Light - 5K.  This is a benefit race for Epic-Cure, Inc.  Come run, walk, jog with us! We are volunteers with deep roots in Saint Johns and Putnam County, Florida, committed to sustainable practices to nourish our planet and this community, providing nutritious food to people in our community experiencing food insecurity, and engendering an environment of accomplishment and success necessary to break the cycles of poverty and food insecurity. About Us

Founded in 2018, Epic-Cure® is a 100% volunteer non-profit 501(c)(3) organization with the primary mission of ending food waste and food insecurity, particularly among the most underserved communities in NE Florida. Since inception (December 2018), Epic-Cure has rescued and distributed more than 24 MILLION pounds of food (primarily fresh produce, meat, and dairy) to the food insecure, with a zero waste model. Epic-Cure undertakes a holistic approach to the multifaceted problems surrounding food waste and food insecurity, emphasizing:
(1) environmental solutions: keeping food out of landfills where it would otherwise emit harmful greenhouse gases, especially methane;
(2) the choice method of free food distributions to reduce food waste and preserve the dignity of our volunteers and beneficiaries;
(3) education through nutrition and skill centered cooking classes for Title 1 school children, active military, and veterans suffering physical and mental health ramifications of their service.  Epic-Cure is partnered with the Steven A. Cohen Military Family Clinic at Centerstone and the 5 Star Veterans Center to teach life skills and potential career paths, and provide both self-reliance and a chance to rise above current, difficult economic, social, health, and mental circumstances;
(4) medical attention: Epic-Med is a division of Epic-Cure focused on rescuing medical supplies for use in our local non-for profit clinics and by medical missionaries and NGO's
(5) emergency response as the emergency food responder for Feeding Northeast Florida and a preferred partner of FEMA.
