A portion of proceeds from this event will support the inaugural effort for the NAACP of Martin County to participate in the national ACT-SO Achievement Program! Each year, high school students across the country start a journey to sharpen their skills through the Afro-Academic, Cultural, Technological and Scientific Olympics (ACT-SO). From visual arts and business to performing and culinary arts, participants work with community-based volunteers for a year to develop projects and performances. The experience culminates in local and national events where students compete for scholarships and other rewards.

Covid-19 Precautions

Your safety is our highest priority!  Here are our protocols for our event as regards Covid-19.

1.  Please do NOT attend if you are feeling sick in ANY way!  We would not want to jeopardize your health, nor the health of any other runners.  If you have a fever, are coughing, or have any other Covid-19 symptoms (or any symptoms of other sicknesses as well) do yourself a favor and stay home, rest and recover so you can run again another day!

2.  We encourage you to wear a mask in and around the starting line and the finish line.  Although we are an outdoor activity with very low risk of transmission, wearing a mask helps prevent possible exposure to Covid-19.

3.  We will use an 'open start' option for the race - both races will start as separate groups (the 10K a couple minutes before the 5K) and we ask each starting group to stand such that each runner is 4 to 6 feet away from other runners.  This will create a loose starting group and give everyone a chance to get out on course without impacting other runners.

4.  Please use the hand sanitizer provided, and feel free to bring your own.  Clean hands prevent transmission of the virus!

5.  We will have both 'communal food' and 'individual food' as our post-race refreshments.  Communal food will be available for anyone to choose, and may include foods such as bananas or bagels and other such foods.  Individual foods will include individually-wrapped nutrition bars, as an example.  Please choose the food that is most comfortable for you.

6.  We encourage you to bring your own water bottle for hydration - we're trying to reduce or eliminate the use of single-use paper cups, so bring your own hydration option.  We will have fluids for you - water for sure.

7.  Before and after the race, please use social distancing while at the race site.  Thank you for your cooperation!
