When one family came to Friendship Circle for their very first Friday night, the older sister held tight to her younger brother throughout the evening. She watched his every move, always ready to step in before he could become “a problem.”
She had spent years being his buffer against a world that often judged first and understood later.
But that evening, something changed.
Our team gently told her, “He's exactly where he's supposed to be—let him be him.”
And just like that, something in her let go.
For the first time, their family could simply be guests at a Shabbat table. They didn't have to manage every moment or apologize for who they were. They could sit together, share the evening, and feel welcomed just as they were.
Sometimes, belonging means more than being invited into a room. It means being able to finally breathe once you're there.
This is what One Soul at a Time means to us. It's creating a community where every person is accepted for who they are, where families feel welcomed, and where siblings can simply be siblings.
Because every soul deserves a place to belong.
