Des Moines' PREMIER 5K run/walk event is celebrating FIVE years of raising money to help support IOWA families who are struggling financially with blood and/or pediatric cancer. This year will look a bit different as the Blood, Sweat and Beers 5K transforms from an in-person race to a virtual running event. We are really excited to share this journey with you and make an even bigger impact to the surrounding community!
Here's what to expect:
1) Registration is NOW OPEN and will remain open through 11:59 p.m. on October 10, 2020.
2) Complete the 5K run/walk at your own pace, on your own schedule, with whoever you want, wherever you want! (race results will not be collected - we are trusting you with the honor system on this one!)
3) Encourage your friends and family near and far to participate with you! Challenge yourself and each other to help those in need! Share your race photos with us and the community on Facebook and Instagram! Use these hashtags so we can follow along! #bsb5k #running #runningforcancer #familycancernetwork
4) Swag will be available to receive two ways: we will offer a local, contactless pick-up option in DSM on Friday, October 16 (exact location TBA) or you can elect to have it shipped to you (for an additional cost) after the race.
We know this race style is not ideal, but the safety of our community is our number one priority. These patients are people, like you and us, trying to take care of themselves and their families. Now, more than ever, they need our help. Our founding purpose was, and still remains true, to help patients and families with the “collateral damage” they face in the wake of a blood and/or pediatric cancer diagnoses.
Even if you don't want to walk/run, you can still support a family by making a donation to the Family Cancer Network. Thank you in advance from our grant recipients for your generosity!
