Fast & Flat 10K from a distance

The SueB 5K 10K honors the memory of  Susan “SueB” Newby and promotes healthy relationships while raising important funds for the WCA’s Endowment Fund. The 12 Annual SueB 5k 10k will be a virtual event so we can support survivors and victims of domestic violence both locally and globally. The event will kick off on October 3, 2021, at noon. You can participate in the 5K or 10K anytime from October 3 - October 9.

In the heartfelt words of Sue’s sister Marj Sente: "Don’t wait until your sister, daughter or mother is a victim of domestic abuse or sexual assault, step forward now and make an investment in the WCA to raise awareness about domestic violence."

100% of sponsor donations and participant fees support our Endowment Fund to ensure the WCA can maintain our services and serve our clients for many years to come. With an 84% increase in calls to our hotline last year and a stay-at-home order in place, it was apparent that home is not safe for all. Although we are entering a stage of new-normal the honest truth is that domestic violence does not end when a pandemic does. Home is still not safe for all.

In order to continue the tradition of honoring the memory of Susan “SueB” Newby, our virtual event will still include all the usual festivities such as participating in a virtual warm-up, wearing a bib number and receiving a t-shirt and finisher certificate to share with your friends and family digitally. We will offer a selection of 5K and 10k courses around the Treasure Valley highlighting meaningful local landmarks such as SueB’s memorial tree in Ann Morrison Park and other domestic violence organizations in the area. Choose which course to use when it best works for you or create a new course! This is a great opportunity to get your family, friends and coworkers outdoors in a fun, healthy, shared activity.

Idaho Access Project - 5k Route

This year the WCA and the Idaho Access Project teamed up to help evaluate the 5k urban route for accessibility and to create audio descriptions of the route and several key points of interest along the way. The goal is to include people with diverse abilities who want to support the WCA and be part of the community event.

We have provided directions for the SueB Memorial 5k urban route through a visual map, text description (Word and PDF) and audio. We have created five audio files describing key points of interest along the route. These include the WCA sculpture “Taking Flight”, the Faces of Hope Mural in the Basque Mural, the SueB memorial tree in Ann Morrison Park and the brand new Cherie Buckner Webb Park.
