Description

It’s that time of the year again: Waterton Wellness Week! 👟🏃‍♂️ This year, our 2nd Annual Virtual 5K will be partnered with The Waterton-Adrienne Smith Sarcoma Research Fund during the week of September 20-24, 2021.  A virtual 5K means you will run/walk 3.1 miles on your own, on a course of your choosing at any time throughout Wellness Week.

Because we are dedicating this year’s virtual 5K to The Waterton-Adrienne Smith Sarcoma Research Fund, all donations and proceeds will support patient care and help to accelerate sarcoma research, creating better answers for tomorrow’s patients. Through fueling new drug protocols, surgical procedures, and radiation therapies, you are helping to build more effective treatments and minimize the long-term side effects experienced by patients. The initial fundraising goal of The Waterton-Adrienne Smith Sarcoma Research Fund is $1 million dollars. Once that goal is achieved, the fund will become an endowment, providing a perpetual source of sarcoma research funding.

Adrienne Smith was a devoted employee. During her 16 years at Waterton, Adrienne established herself as a valued leader, mentor, and friend. She was passionate about Notre Dame Athletics, her alma mater, and she was a leading cultural ambassador at Waterton. Adrienne co-founded Waterton Women, an affinity group focused on creating better professional development opportunities and networking events for women across the company. Her dedication, loyalty, knowledge, and unwavering positivity in the face of adversity were and continue to be an inspiration to all of those around her. Adrienne passed away at 42 years old on July 8, 2019, after a courageous four-year battle with sarcoma. David, being a sarcoma survivor himself, and Pete, whose family has been touched by cancer, created The Waterton-Adrienne Smith Sarcoma Research Fund in her memory.

Don’t forget to capture some memorable images during your run/walk. Post one of these pictures to your Instagram during Wellness Week (Sept. 20-24) using the hashtag #WatertonWellnessVirtual5K and tag @WatertonRealEstate to enter our giveaway to win some wellness prizes!

In memory of Adrienne Smith: Since David Schwartz and Pete Vilim founded Waterton in 1995 as a real estate investment and property management company, they have made philanthropy a priority and created a culture that is committed to volunteerism and charitable giving. Waterton encourages all employees to be positive forces in the communities in which they live and operate.
