RACE DESCRIPTION
From the RD: Run the best course of its kind in the Midwest. Don’t wait to see what the weather will be – Its the Midwest and it’s January❄ In past years we have had wind chills with a low of 2° and a high of 19° with scattered clouds, -20° wind chill, freezing rain, snow, heavy rain, ankle deep mud and two days in the 60s. So register early, save lots of money & don’t worry about the weather because you will have fun running and partying.
Grand Slam Event #1: Complete the Siberian Express, Mountain Goat, Lake Mingo Trail Run, and Wild Wild Wilderness in 2025 to earn an awesome award, presented at the Wild Wild Wilderness race.
Online Registration Dates: Open till January 2, 2025
Race Day Registration: Available from 9:30 am to 10:45 cash or check and the cost is $50. Checks can be made payable to KRR. Race Day Registration does not include a race shirt/sweatshirt.
Packet Pickup: Packet will include your bib, shirt and pins and can be picked up on race day from 9:30 am to 10:45 am. The location for pickup is at Kickapoo State Park Maintenance Building.

Post Race Party: Immediately following the race, the party will be at Vermilion River Brewing Company. Drinks are courtesy of the Kennekuk Road Runners but there will be a food truck at your own cost parked outside. The address for VRBC is: 103 N Vermilion St, Danville IL 61832.
Finisher Awards: will be presented to the first 150 runners as you cross the finish line.
Age Group Awards: N/A

🏞 Course Overview:
The 7.45-mile course is 95% trail, and heads east out of the park before turning into the woods, where the adventure really begins. You will climb and descend steep hills, cross creeks and bridges, and if you are lucky, see some dee and other wildlife. This is a scenic and challenging run.
⛑ Aid Stations:
Due to the weather and time of year there are no aid stations on this course so pack your race day essentials accordingly.
🕐 Race Time Limit:
The course officially closes at 1:00 PM. Participants finishing after this time will not receive a finisher award and will continue at their own risk. To earn your finisher award, be sure to cross the line before then—after that, you’re welcome to continue, but support will be limited.

Whether you're facing frosty temps or muddy terrain, here’s what to bring to stay warm, safe, and prepared on race day:
👟 Race Essentials
- Trail running shoes with strong grip and winter traction
- Moisture-wicking base layers (top and bottom)
- Insulated running jacket or vest
- Lightweight hat or beanie that covers ears
- Gloves or mittens (preferably thermal and touchscreen-friendly)
- Running tights or thermal leggings
- Buff, gaiter, or neck warmer
- Wool or synthetic running socks (avoid cotton)
🎒 Gear & Accessories
- Hydration pack or handheld water bottle (insulated for cold temps)
- Nutrition (energy gels, chews, bars)
- Safety whistle
- Watch or GPS tracker
- Trail map (if not marked or unfamiliar)
- Sunglasses or goggles (snow glare protection)
📦 Optional but Helpful
- Hand warmers or toe warmers
- Waterproof shell (for rain/snow)
- Extra dry clothes for post-race
- Small towel and baby wipes
- Compact first aid kit
- Trash bag (for wet or muddy gear)
