Race the Region: Half Marathon & 5K
Put your summer training to the test with Race the Region's fast and flat Half Marathon or 5K! Join us on Sunday, October 27, 2024, for this exciting event starting at Dogwood Park in Chesterton, Indiana.
You'll enjoy an out-and-back course on the Prairie Duneland Urban Bike Trail, known for its scenic beauty and smooth terrain. Whether you're a seasoned runner or a casual jogger, this race offers something for everyone:
- 8:00 AM – Half Marathon (Timed)
- 8:10 AM – 5K (Timed)
Explore Chesterton's charming downtown including Indiana's own Running Vines Winery, just outside Indiana Dunes National Park, and make it a day to remember.

Race Benefits
Race the Region: Duneland Half Marathon & 5K is proud to partner with the Chesterton Boys and Girls Cross Country Programs. Over the past four years, Race the Region has contributed more than $6,000 to these programs. These funds have helped the teams enhance their experience with team tents, spirit wear, and recovery/prehabilitative equipment.
With their enthusiasm and support, the cross country teams provide high-energy water stops along the Half Marathon course, ensuring participants are well-hydrated and motivated. Their dedication and volunteerism are key to making this event a success!

Note: Participants are encouraged to register online before the deadline. Race packets can be picked up at the designated location on the 25th or 26th, or on race day itself starting at 6:30 AM.

- Awards can be claimed within 14 days following the event at The Extra Mile Fitness Co., 3400 Calumet, Valparaiso, IN 46383.
- Unclaimed awards after 14 days will be donated or recycled.
- Race shirts not picked up on or before race day are not guaranteed.
Parking and Road Closure
Event Parking
- Location: Parking for the event will be available around the Dogwood Park soccer fields.
- Entrance: All traffic must enter through the 1100 N. entrance.
- Parking Availability: There is ample parking space near the soccer fields.
- Facilities: Numerous Port-A-Johns will be located around the soccer fields for participant use. Please make use of these facilities, as lines at the Start/Finish area may be long.
Road Closures
- 23rd Street Closure: 23rd Street will be closed from 5:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m..
- Alternative Routes: If you are traveling from Interstate 94, HWY 20, or HWY 12, please use Pearson Road or S. 11th Street to access 1100 N..
- Important: You will NOT be able to access Dogwood Park via 23rd Street during this time.
