HEARTLAND HALF MARATHON:
The date for Jasper's eighth annual Heartland Half Marathon is set for Saturday, September 21, 2019 at 7:30 a.m. Eastern Time (ET). The race features a great course that starts in the shadow of the Jasper Train Depot along the Patoka River and finishes in the shade at Dave Buehler Plaza just a stone's throw away from the starting line. Monetary awards will once again be given for 1st - 3rd place for both Men & Women in the Half Marathon race. 1st place will receive $500, 2nd place $250, & 3rd place $100.
This is a hilly course that is fairly challenging, especially at the midway point of the race along St. Charles Street. Some past participants have given us feedback that they enjoy this aspect of the challenge; however, others were not prepared. Please be sure to prepare yourself for the midway peaks in the course. After the middle section of the race, the course largely flattens out again on the way to the finish.
This race begins at the same time and date as the Half Marathon, Saturday, September 21 at 7:30 a.m. ET. The Half Marathon and 5K begin the same, but they will split apart very close to the start of the race. Be prepared to follow the volunteers' directions at this split. Like the Half Marathon and all Heartland events, the route will finish along the scenic Jasper Riverwalk.
HEARTLAND TEAM CHALLENGE:
The Heartland Team Challenge is a relay comprised of a 4-person team, and follows the same course as the Heartland Half Marathon. Participants will begin at the same time and date as the Heartland Half Marathon and 5K. The first runner in the relay will travel 4.2 miles and pass along their timing chip to the second runner. The second runner will then run 3.6 miles and pass along their chip. The third runner will run 2.5 miles, and the final runner finishes off with the remaining 2.75 miles.
HEARTLAND KIDS FUN RUN:
The Heartland Kids Fun Run & Festival will take place on Friday, September 20. The race will begin at 6:00 p.m. ET from the paved parking area adjacent to the Dave Buehler Plaza. Children ages 4-14 are eligilble to enter the 1.1 Mile Kids Fun Run (see route map below). Those participants ages 4-8 will be required to run with a Running Buddy (age 18 or older). Race Registration includes a t-shirt, participation medal, and goody bag (Shirt size preference and goody bag not guaranteed if registered after August 15, 2019). The first 100 participants to register for the Kids Fun Run will receive a special gift. Running Buddies are not required to register, therefore will not be charged the race fee and will not receive race garb.
The Heartland Kids Festival will take place from 5:00-7:30 p.m. at the Dave Buehler Plaza. Festivities will include a variety of games, activities, and health information for the whole family to enjoy. In addition, there will be live music, performances by local dance and gymnastics teams, face painting, food for purchase, and so much more. The Heartland Kids Festival is FREE and open to the public.
RACE DAY REGISTRATION IS AVAILABLE. Online registration will close earlier in order to be ready for packet pickups.
Shirt, shirt size, and/or packet is not guaranteed if registered after the August 15th cutoff. It will be based on availability after that point.
10% of the Heartland Half Marathon, 5K, and Team Challenge goes into the DC Multisport Endowment for succession planning of the organization and for future charitable donations. The rest of the proceeds from Heartland Half Marathon, 5K, and Team Challenge will be given to the Phillip R. Dawkins Heart & Vascular Center to be utilized for new integrative medicine services provided to patients at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center.
All of the proceeds from the Kids Fun Run and Festival will benefit Girls on the Run Serving Dubois County.
