Description
The half marathon will primarily use a new, closed loop trail that runs adjacent to the Upper Iowa River before winding through a rural setting. The 5K and 10K runs mainly follow a trail along the river. Some gentle hills will be encountered during the half marathon while the routes for the other runs are relatively flat. Decorah, Iowa is located in northeast Iowa nestled in a river valley surrounded by limestone bluffs, hillsides and unique algific slopes. All of the running events take full advantage of the beautiful natural features that distinguish this Driftless Region from many other areas found in the Midwest. The new Trout Run Trail which was completed in 2012 offers a variety of views of the natural and urban features including commissioned art characterizing this community.
