On the last day of the Illinois State Fair in August each year, hundreds of runners from Illinois and surrounding states take to the streets covering the fairgrounds, Lincoln Park, Oak Ridge Cemetery, and back. This challenging 10K course is USATF certified and a lot of fun! Abe's Amble also includes a 5K option in addition to the longstanding 10K distance. Register by Friday, July 30 to guarantee a race shirt!
The 2021 Abe's Amble 10K was selected as the Road Runners Club of America's Illinois State Championship 10K! This means special championship bibs, additional medals for overall winners, Gatorade and more!
Assuming Illinois is in Phase 5/Restore Illinois on race day, we will return to a traditional start format (mass start). The 10K will begin at 7:30am and the 5k will begin at 7:45am. We understand that not all participants might be comfortable with a large group, and we'd like to provide accommodations to support that. Therefore, the start line will remain open for five minutes after the gun goes off. This will allow those who prefer additional distance between them and others the opportunity to start the race in a more socially distanced fashion. Your time starts when you cross the start line. Age group awards will be based on net time. (Please note, overall race winners will still be based on gun time, the first person to cross the finish line is the winner, regardless of when starting.)
CURBSIDE PACKET PICKUP
Curbside packet pickup for live and virtual participants will be held on Saturday, August 21, 11:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m.- Springfield Running Center, 2943 W. White Oaks Drive, Springfield, IL. Feel free to arrive anytime during the pickup time, but please be patient if it is busy and you must wait a few minutes for your items. We will get you in and out as soon as possible.
If you registered by the July 30 t-shirt deadline, we will have a shirt for you! If you registered after July 30 but were still able to choose a shirt during online registration, we should have a shirt for you! Please note you will receive the size you selected during registration. If you registered after our shirt supply was exhausted, unfortunately, you will not receive a shirt. We can only guarantee shirts for those registered by the July 30 deadline. Additional race swag will be distributed with race packets on a first come, first served basis while supplies last.
Please do your best to attend the Saturday packet pickup. You are welcome to have someone else pick up your packet for you if cannot make it.
