Description

Central Lake, Michigan, will host the 9th annual Ryan Shay Mid Summer Night Run in conjunction with their 4th of July celebration events. Ryan grew up in Central Lake and was an 11 times state champion in track and cross-country, 10 times All-American at the University of Notre Dame, 10,000 meter NCAA champion, 5 times USA National Champion, and represented the United States in competition throughout the world. On November 3, 2007, Ryan passed away from sudden heart failure while competing in the US Olympic Marathon Trials. In memory of Ryan, three races are offered. Choose from the 5k run/walk, 10k run, or the Fudgee’s Ice Cream 1 Mile Fun Run. The 5k and 10k courses will cover roads and trails where Ryan often trained while living in Central Lake. All events take place in the evening.
Race Information: 7:00 p.m. 5k and 10k point-to-point races start at Thurston Park on Old State Street east of downtown Central Lake and end at the high school track on M88 southof town. 8:00 p.m. Fudgee’s Ice Cream 1 Mile Fun Run at high school track on M88 south of town.
