The Loppet Ski Club is a community of lifelong skiers who gather year-round for enjoyment of the outdoors. Loppet Ski Club is designed for the person who is interested in developing as a competent and confident recreational skier. Many who join the club are skiing for the first time- some because their kids have started skiing, others have moved from winter-deprived locations, others are cyclists or runners that want to keep it going year-round or are simply trying to find a way to love winter in Minnesota. Others have been long-time skiers but have never had a lesson or training program.
Regardless of motivation and experience – all are welcome!
The Loppet Ski Club offers a comprehensive approach to skiing. It starts with skill development and fitness- with regular groups and coaching. We also provide a social/club experience and add in education on clothing and equipment, ski maintenance and waxing. Many of us participate in Loppet events and races- and other local and regional events including the Korteloppet or Birkebeiner and Mora Vasaloppet.

Get a jump start on the ski season by working out with the Loppet Ski Club! By training before the snow flies, you will be in better physical shape when you get on skis and will find skiing much more enjoyable.
This fall training program is designed for adult skiers. The emphasis is on efficiency, we will work on developing and tuning efficient technique for both freestyle (skate) and classic (diagonal stride). Sessions are designed to accommodate the full spectrum of skier experience and fitness. Beginners will learn technique without the complication of using slippery skis, while more experienced skiers will benefit from a tune-up and re-emphasis on ski-specific training after a long summer of biking, running, golfing, etc.
We are beginning the second year where program design is influenced by COVID-19. This program description is in line with current best practices and policies and will be adapted if needed.
When: Monday nights 6:30 – 8:15 PM, September 13 through October 25, 2020 (7 sessions)
What: We will start each week as a group in a large open area then sort into small groups based on skier fitness and experience. We do expect that skiers can change groups during the season. Each group will do a combination of technique specific drills, fitness, strength, agility, and balance work.
Where: Eloise Butler area. Meet at 6:30 in the field at the corner of Glenwood Ave and Xerxes Ave N. Parking is at Wirth Beach or in the neighborhood near Xerxes Ave N. and Glenwood.
Equipment: Cross-country ski poles and a headlamp. We know the trails well, but it will be dark in the woods after Labor Day. If you do not have poles, come anyway, as these workouts can also be done without poles. For new skiers- we recommend that you wait to buy equipment until after you speak with one of our coaches- we can probably help you get better gear for less money.
Communication: We will get in touch with you via text and/or email after registration. Two reasons: first, because of COVID-19, we need a way to communicate between coaches and group; second, we will try to group those with similar experience and fitness together.
