#WillSmiles is in honor of Life Associate member, Anna Beeman's son, Will. Will was diagnosed with Biliary Atresia and liver failure shortly after birth and at the young age of 5 months was blessed with a new liver that saved his life. Throughout Will's journey with long hospital stays and numerous surgeries to help with his chronic illness, Will has always shown his fighting spirit and love through his contagious smile. Because of Will's loving heart, JA feels inspired to help Will spread his story and bring awareness and love to others! While we may not be able to give the gift of an organ or cure on race day, we can show these families that we support and love them! All are encouraged to come run/walk and have some fun!

JA's Will 5K is honored to present this year's beneficiary, Cohen Miller.

"Cohen is 8 years old and in the 3rd grade. He is the middle brother of 4 boys and has the sweetest heart! He was diagnosed with a Type 1 Diabetes in February of 2019. The day he was diagnosed is one i'll never forget. He had a baseball tournament in Oxford and was constantly running to the restroom, drinking everything in sight and had blurred vision while playing catcher. “No way my kid has diabetes”, I remember thinking. That night a friend of mine made me bring him to the fire station to have his blood sugar checked, it read “HI”, of the charts, my momma heart was broken!! We spent the next few days in Le Bonheur with an amazing endocrine team. Type 1 Diabetes does not define Cohen, and it sure doesn’t stop him!! Cohen still plays competitive baseball at EBC and he loves spending time with his new service pup, Cruzer! With the new diagnosis of T1D, it’s very hard to manage, some days Cohen has really high blood glucose and some days he is super low. But all in all, he’s the toughest warrior i have ever known!!"
Mom of Cohen, Kasey Slay
