Reaching Into The Light Grief Support and Education

Thanks to proceeds raised from our Into The Light Suicide & Mental Health Awareness Walk, Rowan County United Way has developed our Reaching Into The Light Grief Support & Education program for suicide survivors who are ages 18 years old and older. This group is FREE for Rowan County residents and is led by a licensed clinician who provides psychoeducation along with support for participants who have experienced loss from suicide. To learn more, please call 704-633-1802.

"I felt so alone and isolated after my husband’s suicide. It helped me tremendously to be around a group of people who had experienced the death of a loved one by suicide because they understood what I was feeling. Our clinician was a wonderful leader and facilitator, encouraging each of us to share our fears, feelings, and hopes for the future. I feel like I have now gained the tools to begin my healing process." — Reaching Into The Light Participant

“We were lucky, in that we had good support within our family. But we would see people when we were out, and they would say ‘we would have called you, but we didn’t know what to say.' People are fearful of mental illness. It’s as if they somehow think it will rub off on them if they get too close. It is long since time to get past that."
