Maple City Half Marathon & 5K

Where is the race located?

Norwalk, Ohio in North Central Ohio. Norwalk is a wonderful small city with a population of about 20k , located between Toledo and Cleveland, and about 30 minutes south of Lake Erie's shore. 

There are cash prizes?!

Due to the generosity of one local sponsor / running enthusiast Dr. James D. Kasten, we are offering the following cash prizes for both the Male (Open) and Female Divisions for the Half Marathon:

     -1st Place - $100 , 2nd Place $75 , 3rd Place $50

     -Age Group Cash Prize Awards including Masters (40-49), Grand Masters (50-59) and Senior Grand Masters (60+)

We will also have non-cash awards for the 1st , 2nd , and 3rd place overall for the 5k. 

Note - each runner is limited to ONE individual cash prize (overall place trumps age group)- meaning if you finish 1st / 2nd / 3rd in your division, you are not entitled to age group prizes. Winners of individual cash prizes are still eligible for any team challenge prize, however. 

Is there a time limit?

To allow for streets to open up in a timely manner, participants will be asked to follow a 15 minute per mile pace. Runners falling behind this pace will be asked to move to the sidewalks. 

Is the race certified? Can I qualify for another race based on my time in this event?

YES!

The course is a one-loop course and will take you through the heart of our small town. It is a first-year race, so you have the potential to etch your name in the record books! 

Who is putting on the race?

The race is being presented by the Norwalk Area United Fund, a non-profit charitable organization whose mission is to serve by connecting people with needed resources and focusing on the greater good of the community. How will the race be timed?

DMC Timing, a GREAT race director out of Rocky River will be assisting with the race logistics and will be handling chip timing on bibs. 

Tell me about the stuff I get! 

Runners for both the 5K and the Half Marathon will receive a t-shirt and post-race refreshments. Half Marathon runners will also receive a custom finisher medal. We are also working on putting together a swag bag with other goodies. 

Team Challenge - how does that work? Is that a relay?

The team challenge is NOT a relay. It is similar to how a cross country event is run, where each team (up to a max of 5 members) takes their 3 best times to determine the winning team. Each member's time will be "weighted" based on their age / gender so even if you are in your golden years, you still have a shot against the younger teams! We are offering a discounted sign-up fee for full teams participating in the team challenge - Buy 4 registrations, get the 5th for free!
