Special thanks to race director Heidi Laubach and her team of dedicated volunteers who launched the Black Cat 5K 12 years ago to raise money for the animals of the Bucks County SPCA. Heidi and friends have donated their time and talents again this year to create a virtual event as fun and purposeful as in years past. Thank you for joining with us to make this year's Black Cat the best yet!

Black Cat 5K Run-Walk FAQ

1)    Who can enter the race?

The short answer...EVERYONE. This is a perfect event to do with your family, friends, co-workers, classmates, or by yourself. You can live anywhere in the USA to participate.

2)    How do I sign up?

Just visit the sign-up tab above and enter in all necessary information for each registrant. You’ll have the opportunity to choose your shirt size.  Your shirt will be sent directly to you. If you would prefer to register manually rather than online, download the mail-in form HERE

3)    If I register my family, do we all have to do the same event? In other words, is it ok if some do the 5K, while others do the 1-mile?

You can all do different events! Mix it up any way you like.

4)    Are any awards being given for fastest times?

This is a virtual run and is just for fun (i.e., not a sanctioned race), but you’re more than welcome to enter your final time by visiting here. You can also download a printable certificate when you’re finished! You do not need to enter your time as proof, but it’s always fun to see how you did. It’s completely optional. You can do so after you’re finished by visiting the RESULTS tab of this race and entering your time, you will then be able to download your Finisher's Certificate.

5)    Does the race have to be done in one day?

You can do it all at once if you’d like, but you’re also able to do it in increments. For instance, if you registered for the 5k (3.2 miles), you could do a mile a day for three days. It’s completely up to you!

6)    Do I have to wait to receive my merchandise to do the event?

No, not at all. The race takes place from October 24 - 31. Shirts and prizes will be shipped after the completion of the event. Please note that all sales are final. We cannot offer exchanges or refunds.

7)    How do I download the race day bib and certificate of completion?

We have enabled Pre-Race Bibs, you will be able to access your Bib by navigating to Profile > Upcoming Events > Manage Registration > Manage Registration. From this page you will be able to share or print your Pre-Race bib using the icons above the bib

8)  I’d like to do the race, but don’t need a t-shirt – is it possible not to have it shipped to me?

Thank you for your consideration and generosity! Kindly notify us at through the contact us form and we’ll take care of it.

9) My company would like to help sponsor. Do you have sponsorship opportunities available?

Yes, please visit the "Become a Sponsor" section to find out more or email ddigney@bcspca.org

10)   How can I make a donation?

Please see the DONATE button and thank you for your donation!

YOUR GIFT IS CRITICAL

How did the Black Cat 5K get started?

The fundraiser got started when Heidi Laubach found herself downsized due to the economic recession in 2009. She wanted to devote her time to helping animals and was inspired by her black cat named Pumpkin. The event is run by the dedicated staff of BCSPCA along with Laubach and a team of generous volunteers looking to help animals in need. Thus, the Black Cat 5K was born and has been benefiting animals in the BCSPCA’s care for over a decade.

The Bucks County SPCA Mission:

The Bucks County SPCA assists animals in need and prevents suffering through rescue, rehoming, cruelty investigation and prosecution, and community outreach.

With our community’s support we have grown and expanded, now operating two open-admission, no-time-limit shelters in Lahaska and Quakertown. We also provide extensive humane investigation and education programs. The Bucks County SPCA works to keep animals in their homes and out of the shelter system by offering temporary boarding for pets referred by a social service agency during emergencies and donating pet supplies to food pantries. We are an independent locally-supported 501c nonprofit, and not part of a national organization or county government.
