Description

Harbison State Park - Columbia South Carolina

Harbison 25k & 50k

January 7th, 2023

The history of the Forest dates back thousands of years. Catawba and Cherokee tribes frequently traversed the woodlands to reach an ancient fording location on the Broad River. Early roads and paths leading to the ford made the area an attractive location for the first European settlers who formed a community which came to be known as Dutch Fork. In 1951 the South Carolina Forestry Commission purchased 2,135 acres of land on the Broad River from the Board of National Missions for the Freedmen of the Presbyterian Church. The Church stipulated that the land be named "Harbison Forest" in honor of a major benefactor. In 1981, the Forestry Commission approved a master plan for the long-term development of the tract. The goal was to provide a public greenspace to serve as an educational environment promoting the value of the state's forests and encouraging the stewardship of all of our natural resources.

The race has a cut off of 10 hours due to the State Forest Hours of operation. We are implementing a hard 5 hour first lap cutoff for the 50k runners.  However, as in year’s past, as long as the runners and the race sweep are through the last aid station before the cut off, we will wait and record everyone as an official finisher!

Aid Station

There will be a total of 3 aid stations along the course. The first two aid stations are approximately 6 miles apart, so please ensure that you have the necessary hydration and nutrition for the distance. There will be Tailwind, Water, Coke, Mountain Dew and Ginger Ale at the aid stations with an assortment of cookies, chips, crackers, etc. We gladly accept aid station donations of food items that you like to see at races. Our staff is very busy with course marking, timing, packet pickup, and communication with runners, that it does make it hard to prepare some amazing tasty treats in-between laps so feel free to contribute a little slice of heaven if you can!
