The 2020 Pilot Fireball Moonlight Classic 5K & Little Firecracker Run has been switched to a virtual event. After exploring options for a future date, the Knoxville Track Club has made the decision to make the 2020 event virtual. Thank you for your patience as we work through this difficult time.
The Pilot Fireball Moonlight Classic 5K is a summer tradition and the tradition will continue this year, but virtually.
Date, Time & Place: Wednesday, July 1-Tuesday July 7, Neyland Greenway
This year, fireball will be run virtually, meaning that you will do it on your own, but at a set location within the above time frame. The course will be marked on Neyland Greenway at the very end of June. We will mark it as close as we can to our traditional course, but obviously on the greenway and not the road .Course will start at the corner of Neyland Drive and Joe Johnson Blvd and follow greenway around UT gardens and then circle under Neyland Drive. Then up by concrete plant and behind water treatment plant. Runners will then have 2 options at the red light at the intersection of Neyland Drive and Lake Loudoun Blvd. Option one will be to cross at Crosswalk when there is a walk signal and continue on greenway. Option two will be at your own risk of staying on the same side of the road and run in the margin. Both will turn at the marked turn around and head back. See map here.
Kids mile will also be marked, with an out and back on the greenway. Please accompany children to keep them safe and on course.
We will be doing two give-away's a day during the time frame. Just post your run along with a picture (it can be of anything related to your run-the greenway, your red, white and blue outfit, your Garmin, Strava, etc. results) on social media (Facebook or Instagram) and tag Knoxville Track Club and use #KTCfireball. Don't have social media? No problem, just email a picture from your run to email@example.com. Each day a random winner will be selected to win a gift card. Also, the most patriotic picture taken during a run each day will receive a gift card.
Team Grand Prix: For this event only, we have decided to award team points, one per member that signs up, up to 25 points to teams. We hope this encourages participation and friendly competition! There will be no individual Grand Prix points awarded for this events

T-shirts: Pre-registered runners will receive unisex t-shirts. Please note our 2020 shirt policy: Anyone registering after July 4th will receive shirts while supplies last. The shirt order will be placed on July 5th and when the inventory runs out in the RunSignUp system then there will be no more shirts. No re-orders.
KTC Safety Policy:
KTC’s mission is to encourage lifelong physical well-being through running and walking. That is accomplished through a variety of events and programming.
The Knoxville Track Club puts the safety of its participants, spectators, staff and volunteers first. Dangerous weather conditions pose a unique challenge to an event of any size, distance or location.
Therefore, KTC has adopted the following Inclement Weather Policy:
Weather forecasts will be monitored prior to the event, with special attention placed on the possibility of heavy rain, thunder and lightning, high winds, extreme temperatures and humidity. If necessary, athletes will be made aware of these conditions on Knoxville Track Club’s website (www.ktc.org), as well as through other available means of communication such as e-mail, Twitter, Facebook and public address announcements.
The Executive Director and Race Director in consultation, when available, with law enforcement, fire/EMS, other medical officers and other officials, will monitor the weather and make a decision if any action will be taken to modify the race. Possible changes include: Altering the start time, altering the course, or in extreme situations cancellation of the event. Visible lightning occurring within 30 minutes of the scheduled start will cause the race to be postponed for a minimum of 30 minutes. Additional sightings will continue to delay the race in 30-minute increments up to a maximum of 3 delays.
Race personnel reserve the right to delay, cancel, or suspend the race or modify the course due to inclement weather. As stated on registration and race pages, there are no refunds or transfers. Participants must abandon the race if ordered to do so by the race personnel, medical staff, fire/paramedics or police personnel.
