About the Race
The Run in the Sun is a running road race in San Angelo, Texas consisting of a 1 Mile, 5K, and 8K. It is run on a certified course and (in 2025) is the RRCA 8K Championship. It is the longest-running race in San Angelo.
All races may be run or walked: everyone is welcome! The race will start and finish on E. Concho Ave across the street from Miss Hattie's Restaurant and runs down Concho Avenue before turning onto Irving and continuing down the river walk in historic San Angelo, TX.

Saturday, June 7:
6:30AM: Race-Day Registration and Packet Pickup Opens
7:30AM: 8K Starts
7:35AM: 5K Starts
7:40AM: 1 Mile Starts
The Course
All races start at 19 E. Concho Avenue in San Angelo, Texas, across from Miss Hattie's Restaurant.
The course then heads southwest toward South Irving Street, takes a left onto Irving , a right onto River Road, and continues on River Road just past 14th Street. Then, the course turns around and returns the same way. The 5km and 1mile courses are the same, but turn around sooner.
The 8K course is certified by the USATF. The measurement certificate may be found here.
The course is marked by arrow signs and green arrow stickers on the pavement. Police or REACT will be present to direct traffic, especially at major intersections.
There is an aid station with water at the 1/2 mile turnaround, the 5km turnaround, and the 8km turnaround.
Awards
Finisher Medals: All finishers (including the 1 mile) will receive a finisher medal.
Overall Winners: The top 3 M/F in the 8K and 5K will receive a finisher trophy/plaque. The are no winner awards for the 1 mile.
Age Group Awards: The 5K and the 8K have age group awards for the following age groups. The top 3 M/F in each will receive an age group award. There are no awards for the 1 mile.
The age groups are: 0-9, 10-14, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70-79, 80-89, 90-99, and 100+
For RRCA Championship years, the following awards will be given in addition to the above:
- Open male and female RRCA 8K Champion
- 40+ male and female RRCA 8K Champion
- 50+ male and female RRCA 8K Champion
- 60+ male and female RRCA 8K Champion
