The first annual City Manager’s 5K Walk & Run, now affectionally referred to as the CM5K, was organized by the City of San Antonio’s newly developed Wellness Division in 2007 to encourage healthy activity among employees and their families. Hosted at Brackenridge Park, the first CM5K brought together 561 participants who celebrated the City’s new commitment to their health and wellbeing.
Since 2007 the CM5K has grown exponentially, moving from an event focused solely on City employees to one open to the community and attracting thousands of participants each year. The event eventually outgrew its original venue due to a lack of parking in the area and moved to Sea World of San Antonio through 2016, Alamo Plaza in 2017, Roosevelt Park in 2019, and then online in 2021 due to the pandemic. Under the vision of City Manager Erik Walsh and thanks in part to new parking development in the area, the City is taking it “Back to the Brack” and hosting this year’s 13th Annual CM5K Walk & Run at the San Antonio Zoo nestled in the heart of historic Brackenridge Park.
As the City’s 2nd oldest public park, generations of San Antonians have long enjoyed Brackenridge Park. Whether they have fond memories of camping out for Easter, donkey and horseback riding, paddleboats, skyrides, the Japanese Tea Garden, train rides, rounds of golf, softball games, concerts, visits to the Witte Museum and more, this year participants have the opportunity to add a 5K to that list. Join us in celebrating the City of San Antonio’s vision and commitment to a healthy workplace AND community on Saturday, October 15th. You don’t want to miss it!
