Goya Cares is your presenting sponsor for the third annual Britta's Chase 5K in the Wild - a race run inside San Antonio’s award winning Zoo! This 5K celebrates Meant to Soar, a non profit 501 (c)(3). The animals are normally more active during this time of the morning because it isn't so hot!
Serious runners grab serious cash! Walkers and joggers, enjoy animals in their morning routines! We will award beautiful customized finisher medals, along with special medals for different age groups and the top three performers in both male and female categories. Britta's Chase is a unique event. Few races receive approval to run through the zoo. Also, back by popular demand is our "cash chase challenge!" $100 bills will be handed out during the race at the 1 and 2 mile markers to the male and female runners who are currently in the lead. Additionally, the winner of the race will win $300 if the male runner finishes under 15:15 and the female runner finishes under 18:15. Come have some fun while you chase down some cash!
This year we have added a fun race called the "Fun Kids Dash" for little ones who are 5 and under. This quarter mile loop dash will be a perfect way for your little ones to have a great experience with lots of people wildly cheering them on! There will be gold, silver, and bronze medals given to the first three finishers and finisher medals to everyone else! The entry fee for this "dash" is $10.
Meant To Soar supports children - who through no fault of their own, have experienced trauma from parental drug / alcohol addiction, or scarring from human trafficking. At Meant To Soar, our mission is to see these children not only survive the critical developmental years, but to be over-comers and to soar in the fullness as they were created. Just as kites are meant to soar, every child has been created by God to soar in life. Every participant in Britta's Chase will receive a Meant to Soar high flying kite!
There will be plenty of signage and course marshals inside the zoo to make sure that you stay on course! This is a really fun course with music, water misters, animals watching you run, lights in the trees, and elite runners passing the recreational ones to collect the cash first!
FAQ
The event BEGINS at 7:30 am, so make sure that you are there early enough, before 7:15, to get warmed up and ready to run. Zoo officials will lock the gate at 7:15 am and we don't want you to be locked out. We strongly urge you to pick up your packet prior to race day. There will be a limited opportunity to pick up ( no personnel support) after zoo entrance. Please allow extra time in case you have to find your name, stand in line, etc.
PACKET PICKUP - Packet pickup Timing & Location Info TBD. We will have hundreds of people in the 5K. If possible, come Friday to pick up your swag bag which includes your t-shirt, bib, etc. You are highly encouraged to pick up packets for friends and family members!
Please note. The t-shirts will be unisex according to your registration.
PARKING - You can park at the San Antonio Zoo parking at 3903 N. Saint Mary’s St., San Antonio, TX 78212 – Park in the parking lot nearest the train depot and Starbucks. Plan to get to the lot no later than 6:15 am so that you can have enough time to walk through the entrance and get to the starting line on time.
ENTRANCE – Enter through the Zoo Lower gate (Tuleta Circle). Additional detail provided upon registration.
VOLUNTEERS – Do you know someone who may not want to run, but would like to volunteer? We still need some help! Send them to www.brittaschase.com and click on the “Volunteer” tab. As a “thank you” we are providing them with free admission to the zoo for the rest of the day.
DONATIONS – If you have donated or would like to donate to Meant to Soar and would like to spend the day at the zoo, email mike@others.app and let us know so that we can set aside a wrist band for you. We will have 30 wrist bands available that we have purchased for $17 each. You can see the "DONATE" button above.
ZOO ADMISSION – We have access to the zoo until 9:00 am and then must leave. If you would like to stay and enjoy the zoo for longer, we have secured discount admission tickets for only $17.
To purchase tickets:
- Click on "Profile" at the top right of this page.
- Scroll down until you see “Britta’s Chase” and click on “Manage Registration.”
- On the next screen, click on “ADD-ONS” at the top.
- Select the quantity of tickets that you want to purchase and select “Continue” to check out.
CASH GRAB – We’re adding a fun competitive element to Britta’s Chase. If you are fast enough to be in the lead, at least through the first mile, make sure that you are on the starting line. The first male and female to get to the one-mile marker first will get a $100 bill, along with the second mile. (Someone may get to the one-mile marker first and need to walk the rest! It doesn’t matter. The cash goes to the first one there!)
PRIZE MONEY – At least $800 will be given out (first males and females in the lead at first two mile markers, and winners. Additional $300 will be given out to the fastest male who runs 15:15 or faster and female who runs 18:15 or faster. If you know any fast runners, tell them about our race! They could walk away with some serious cash!

Kids Run! We need more kids 5 years and younger to run our 1/4 mile dash!
How many times do hundreds of people wildly cheer for your kids 5 and under!! Bring them out dressed in their favorite costume. They will receive a medal, t-shirt, and the attention they deserve!
