Description

With Fairfax County being one of the wealthiest counties in our nation, it's surprising to hear that there are a significant number of children who do not have enough food to eat on a regular basis. In 2019, 23,000 children experienced food insecurity. Now, because of COVID-19 and record inflation that number has doubled, leaving 1 in every 6 kids in Fairfax County suffering from food insecurity.

The Feed Fairfax 5K on May 4th, 2024 is a fun 3.1 mile road race through the Greenbriar neighborhood in Fairfax. The race is organized with community partners to raise money and provide food for kids in Fairfax County suffering from food insecurity.

What makes this race incredibly unique is that after the race, all participants and volunteers will have the opportunity to assemble Power Packs for elementary school children within our community.

Many children rely on free and reduced-price meals at school for food. A Power Pack, which contains seven meals, helps to alleviate hunger for local children in need over the weekend when not in school. All of the Power-Packs assembled at the runner's village will be distributed after the race and eaten the next weekend (12-14 May). Last year in the last three years we had over 1,500 people participate in the race, we packed and donated over 90,000 meals and raised $131,000. This year we are trying to raise $80,000, which will allow us to pack and fund over 23,000 meals for hungry children in our county!
